Degeberative kidney problems are common in older animals. Kidney disease is also seen in youngsters, particularly due to poisoning or developmental abnormalitioes.

The photograph on the right shows a fibrotic kidney with a single cyst following surgical removal from an old cat. This was associated with a large pararenal cyst which was diagnosed by ultrasound scan.
