David Crossley qualified from the Royal Veterinary College, London, in 1978. He then worked for 9 years as an assistant in a progressive small animal practice in the NW of England before obtaining his own first opinion small animal practice. During this time David attended many courses and congresses to satisfy his thirst for surgical knowledge.
By 1990, David had developed special interests in advanced reconstructive and oral surgery (including dentistry). During the following years he accepted referrals in orao-facial surgery and dentistry. In 1993 David passed the entry examination of the Academy of Veterinary Dentistry giving him his first formal postgraduate qualification. Further study and practice of dentistry and oral surgery qualified him to apply for entry to the European College of Veterinary Dentistry and he was one of the first three to obtain membership of the college by passing the college's entry examination in 1998.
At this time David was working towards an oral pathology PhD at Manchester University whilst continuing to work clinically. His PhD was completed and the degree awarded in 2003 allowing him time to resume one of his hobbies, photography.

David's clinical interests include advanced soft tissue surgery, oncology, reconstructive surgery and medical imaging in addition to his primary areas of specialisation, oral, maxillofacial and ENT surgery. He continues to study in order to maintain and improve his knowledge and skills, regularly attending congresses and other educational meetings, also passing on his knowledge and experience to others around the world by lecturing and practical teaching in the UK and abroad. David was recently appointed adjunct professor of surgery at the University of Ljubljana.

The level of ongoing study required to maintain and update knowledge and skills at specialist level leaves little time for holidays. When he does get the opportunity to have some time off David prefers to stay in the UK, preferring Scotland to more exotic locations.
